December
December's Digital Citizenship Champion is Verna Franco.
Verna Franco is a middle school Language Arts teacher in Plano, TX. She was nominated by fellow teacher Zeshan Khan, who said of Verna, "She is a great teacher who uses Twitter to help make connections with our community. Her classroom helps the Otto community have an inside look on all the incredible work that is being done in her classroom. She uses Twitter to showcase the students and the work they are doing to learn."
Verna herself says that in Justice League, Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman advocated, “Technology without reason, without heart destroys us.” I always inculcate the same insights to my students, “Technology is your best ally but can be your most destructive nemesis.” Technology is not only an academic tool but an opportunity to students who seek a variety of platforms to showcase their individual talents and expertise, in school and beyond. I aspire that they will be responsible to engage in digital collaborative learning while practicing positive social behavior. I challenge them to harness their power and become epitomes of Digital Citizenship heroes: responsible, respectful, inspirational and defender.
